A K-Drama-Inspired Couples Shoot: Sherilyn & Oliver
A few weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to photograph some old friends who just celebrated their first year of marriage!
We kicked off our photo session at McGovern Centennial Gardens in the Hermann Park Conservancy. Then, we walked across the street to picnic on the hilly lawn of the Miller Outdoor Theatre—the Houston Symphony happened to be doing a dress rehearsal for their weekend shows, so our evening was marked by the sweet notes of music weaving its way through our laughter.
I actually went to high school with both of these lovebirds! They were just one grade above me; they were the cool sophomores when I entered as a freshman. I remember having Spanish class with Oliver, trying to stifle our laughter behind our Abercrombie sweater sleeves as our teacher went at a bag of potato chips as loud as humanly possible during one of our school lockdowns.
As for Sherilyn—I’ve known Sherilyn since before she starting introducing herself to people as Sherilyn, or Sher. I knew her back when she introduced herself as Maria, back when her mom used to dress her and her two sisters in matching outfits of different colors, like the Powerpuff Girls, back when a group of seven of us girls used to live in the same small town and lock ourselves in the bathroom whispering about our “weekly updates” that our parents were absolutely NOT allowed to hear: about the cute boys we crushed on and any earth-shattering tidbits of middle school drama.
We’re all grown up now, both Maria & I are married to incredible men who just know how to love us so well. I can’t believe this is our life now sometimes. 🥹
Here’s to many more years of sweet marriage & amazing memories, Sherilyn & Oliver!
